How to Sell a Product You Can't Talk About: Onboarding Production for Intimate Medical Technology | Vertica
Intimate MedTech products are one of the biggest challenges in marketing communication. They need to be medically precise, emotionally accessible, and non-embarrassing — simultaneously. An analysis of the decisions behind the Vertica onboarding film.
The Problem You Can't Ignore
When a MedTech company arrives with an intimate product — medical treatment related to areas people don't discuss openly — the marketing department goes into crisis.
How do you explain a product like this? - Too technical → frightening - Too "nice" → not credible - Too direct → embarrassing - Too indirect → confusing
The Vertica project — an RF device for treating erectile dysfunction — arrived with all of these challenges at once.
The goal we defined: an Onboarding film where a first-time viewer won't feel a single moment of discomfort.
The First Decision: Tone Before Script
Before we wrote a single word of script, we defined the tone. This is the stage most clients skip — and pay for later.
The tone we chose: "an explanation from a doctor you trust."
Not telemarketing. Not an infomercial. Not a campaign with dramatic music. A doctor sitting across from you, explaining, demonstrating, making everything feel simple.
This guided every decision that followed: - Wardrobe: clean, neutral, neither clinical nor colorful - Lighting: soft High-key, not colorful, not dramatic - Pace: slow and deliberate, not fast and energetic - Talent: direct eye contact, self-assured, unsurprised by anything
Medical CGI: Explaining What You Can't Film
The most complex technical-creative moment: how do you explain an intimate physiological mechanism — visually — without filming what can't be filmed?
The solution: Blue Medical Mesh — a transparent 3D human figure.
RF technology works through electromagnetism that penetrates tissue and re-stimulates blood circulation. To explain this visually, we created:
1. A 3D model of the human body (transparent blue mesh) showing the device's position relative to anatomy 2. Current animation demonstrating RF penetration into tissue 3. Treatment zone display without any direct filming
The CGI solved the problem without lowering professional standards — on the contrary, it added medical credibility that regular filming wouldn't have allowed.
Syncing Studio with CGI
The technical moment requiring the most planning: for the CGI to appear synchronized with the talent, both the angle and scale must be identical.
Pre-production planning: - Precise definition of talent filming angle (to match the 3D model angle) - Talent hand placement planned to correspond with CGI positioning - Live-action filmed first, CGI added afterward in precise alignment
Without this preproduction planning — the CGI would feel "pasted" rather than integral.
Close-up and Overhead Shots: The Precision That Builds Trust
A technical product requiring precise operation — magnetic charging, gel, buttons, LED — cannot be shown only in wide shots.
We introduced two types of filming that don't usually appear together:
Overhead (top-down): lets the viewer see exactly what the hands are doing — unboxing, extracting components, magnetic connection — as if they're doing it themselves.
Extreme Close-up: the LED indicators, the magnetic click, cleaning — the things a viewer must see large to remember.
The editing between the two created a flow that feels like personal instruction, not a written manual.
The Cleaning Scene: Why You Don't Skip This
Many clients want to skip cleaning and maintenance scenes. "It's not exciting. Viewers will skip ahead."
The big mistake.
For a consumer buying an intimate MedTech product, cleaning is one of the biggest purchase barriers. "How complicated is it? Is it tiring? Is it hygienic?"
The sink-cleaning scene — simple, quick, direct — removes a massive barrier: "Oh, this is just as straightforward as any other product I have at home."
Credibility comes from the small details that brands are usually too embarrassed to show.
What This Film Proves for You
For a client looking for a production company for a MedTech or complex technical product project:
The Vertica film demonstrates: - Ability to work with sensitive subjects without compromising appearance and credibility - Medical CGI integration within live-action production - Production to global standard (English, ready for US/EU platforms) - Measurable ROI: fewer support calls, fewer returns, higher satisfaction
A good Onboarding video doesn't explain your product. It makes your customer want to use it.
